Volunteers are the heart and soul of Mission Viejo, and on Monday the City Council recognized six dedicated volunteers for each contributing 1,000 hours of service to the City.
Mayor Dave Leckness recognized Marlene Kazen, Edith Murray and Betty Saunders for devoting their time and energy at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center and Vistasp Shroff and Alicia Brillhart for their outstanding efforts at the Mission Viejo Library. Bunny Smith, who has also logged 1,000 hours of volunteer service at the library, could not attend Monday’s meeting.
Along with providing invaluable service to the community, volunteers save the City a significant amount of money.
Before the volunteers were feted, flutist Lisa Tredwell delighted the council and audience with a poignant presentation.
The City Council meets at 6 p.m. on the first and third Monday of the month in the Council Chamber at City Hall, 200 Civic Center. The public can watch council meetings as they happen and have occurred by visiting www.cityofmissionviejo.org.
