The public is invited to learn about oral history techniques and much more in a special workshop on Saturday, Feb. 19.
The workshop, sponsored by the Heritage Committee and led by a Cal State University Fullerton instructor connected with the Center for Oral and Public History (COPH), is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Saddleback Room at City Hall, 200 Civic Center.
The seminar will delight history buffs and the like, who will learn about the mission and history of COPH, the background and importance of oral history, and how to use it in conjunction with other forms of history.
Participants will learn basic oral history techniques, including research, the process of interviewing, and what to do with the final product, including field notes, tape logs and transcription as well as preservation and presentation.
During the workshop, participants can also practice conducting interviews including troubleshooting strategies.
The class is limited to 25 students, so early reservations are recommended. To reserve a seat today, contact Dru Maurer at dmaurer@cityofmissionviejo.org or 949-470-8452.
