The City is accepting registration for its American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course, which is designed to educate candidates in the skills and knowledge necessary to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies.
The course will be offered in three 3-day sessions in March, April and May at the City’s Montanoso Recreation Center.
Effective lifeguard training develops the lifeguard’s ability to prevent drownings by providing lifeguards an opportunity to integrate their experience, judgment and rescue skills. Participants will receive American Red Cross certification in Lifeguard Training, First Aid and CPR for the professional rescuer to help prepare for an emergency.
To participate in the training, candidates must be at least 15 years old. Community members can opt for any one of the following training sessions that take place from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday March 25-27, April 15-17 and May 20-22 at 25800 Montanoso Drive.
Cost is $140 and includes books and materials. Registration is available at the Montanoso Recreation Center or at the City’s Sierra Recreation Center, 26887 Recodo Lane. For more information, call 949-859-4348, Ext 5720.

Is the Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course limited to just residents of Mission Viejo?
I am a senior at Santa Margarita Catholic HS and interested in attending the April 15-17 session.
The Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course is also open to non-residents of Mission Viejo. If you need additional information you can call (949) 859-4348 x5725.
