A stretch of El Toro Road between Painted Trail and Marguerite Parkway was closed today while authorities investigated a car accident that sent two men to the hospital.
The accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. this morning when a 2003 Porsche 911 Turbo driven by a 29-year-old man with a male passenger (28 to 32 years old) was traveling westbound on El Toro just underneath the toll road underpass when he lost control, hit a curb and flipped over landing near a storage facility.
Witnesses say the car was traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour before the accident that knocked a light pole down and left a 70-yard debris field. Orange County Fire Authority had to cut the men out the car. They were taken to Mission Hospital where they are being treated for head trauma.
As of 1:20 p.m., the westbound El Toro Road lanes were closed and expected to re-open by 4:00 p.m.
