Thousands of toys will be donated to needy kids in time for the holidays thanks to the recent “Toys for Tots” girls fast pitch softball tournament that benefitted the Marine Corps’ annual effort.
The American Athletics hosted 93 teams on Dec. 4-5 that played at different sites, with Mission Viejo’s Alicia Park as the main venue. Along with enjoying exciting girls softball, players, coaches, parents and spectators got into the holiday spirit by donating toys to the cause.
This was the eighth year the American Athletics, which uses the City’s Alicia and Oso parks, has put on the event to benefit the less fortunate.
Jim Rawls’ 14U American Athletic team made it to the championship game and was crowned “co-champions” after the game was canceled due to bad weather. Rawls is also the field manager with Mission Viejo Girls Softball.
Softball officials say the “American Athletics are proud to call Alicia Park the home venue and to hold this event with the City of Mission Viejo each year.”
