The City’s Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center this month is hosting an array of free and low-cost programs and events and opportunities for residents to get involved. The facility is located at 24932 Veterans Way.
Volunteers sought for AARP Tax-Aide
Volunteers are sought for the City’s AARP Tax-Aide program that offers seniors free assistance with their taxes during tax season. Volunteers are needed to work as tax counselors, greeters, communications or technology volunteers.
The training takes place in January for the service that is provided at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center from February through April.

Necessary Legal Documents Nov. 9
The public is invited to attend an informative class designed to educate people about the legal documents needed to help them with health care decisions.
The free course, which is at 10 a.m. on Nov. 9, will cover details of Advanced Health Care Directive, DNR and POLST.

Senior Sunday Nov. 14
Don’t miss an enchanting Sunday afternoon full of music, magic and much more.
The “Senior Sunday” event is from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and includes Bingo, prizes, refreshments and entertainment and magic by Opera Cadabra with Patrick Bell. The event is hosted by Heritage Point.

Emergency Response Systems
Community members are invited to a free program Nov. 16 that is meant to educate them about the latest emergency response systems available.
The free program is at 10 a.m. and will include information about enhanced systems that offer safety to people in emergency situations at home.

New Dietary Guidelines Nov. 17
If you want to learn about the latest dietary guidelines in an informative and free class, then register today for the “New Dietary Guidelines” class on Nov. 17.
The 11 a.m. class, led by registered dietician Lisa Gibson, will cover current guidelines for intake of sodium, potassium and Omega 3 fatty acids along with recommendations for physical activity.

Managing Stress in Later Life Nov. 18
Learn how to manage stress, which can affect decision-making, risk taking, sleep and more, in this free class at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 18
Led by Barbara Walling of UC Irvine Medical Center, the program will focus on the causes, physiological changes and will offer tips to relieve stress.

Annual Thanksgiving Feast Nov. 24
Reservations are available through Nov. 17 for the City’s Annual Thanksgiving Feast lunch on Wednesday, Nov. 24.
The festive celebration kicks off at 11:30 a.m. and guest will enjoy a traditional turkey dinner with all the savory sides.
Cost is $4 seniors and a $5.50 suggested donation for the general public.
