Dr. Robert Sears, author of more than 30 books on childcare, will join more than 30 other renowned authors and illustrators at the Mission Viejo Readers’ Festival on Sept. 25.

The free event, which also includes appearances by Lisa and Laura Ling and other popular personalities, is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Oso Viejo Community Park, 24932 Veterans Way. Last year’s inaugural event attracted more than 5,000 people of all ages.

Sears, known as “Dr. Bob” by his young patients has a passion for helping parents understand childhood vaccines and the options open to them in choosing the safest possible inoculation schedule for their child.

The Friends Present Mission Viejo Readers’ Festival, sponsored by the Friends of Mission Viejo Library, will also feature a cornucopia of food, entertainment, merchandise and autographed books. Festival patrons can buy books at the Whale of a Tale Children’s Bookshoppe and Book Events and Authors Unlimited.

Free shuttle service is available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from the Mission Viejo Civic Center, 200 Civic Center. Visitors are encouraged to bring a canned or non-perishable food item to donate to the South County Outreach Food Pantry.
