Mission Viejo Police Services and the City are giving residents the opportunity to have their sensitive records securely destroyed in a free event on Saturday.
The free drive-thru shredding event is from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Civic Center parking lot at 200 Civic Center.
Identity theft is one of the fastest-growing crimes in the nation, and shredding documents with personal or financial information can be an effective measure of prevention.
Mission Viejo residents and businesses can bring up to 10 legal-size boxes of paper records – cancelled checks, pay stubs, credit card statements and more – which will be shredded on-site by Orange County Shredding, who will then transport the small paper particles for recycling.
The boxes of pages may contain staples and paper clips, but must be free of notebooks or other bindings.
