The Mission Viejo Library is seeing a record number of kids participating in its free SummerREAD program. So far more than 3,500 children have registered – surpassing past years’ participation in the program that runs through Aug. 5.
SummerREAD, which is designed to instill a lifelong love of reading, features prizes and incentives for young readers age 0 through 12.
Children who complete the program’s 12 hours of reading (or being read to) are invited to the SummerREAD Stars Celebration Party at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 10 at the Norman P. Murray Community Center, 24932 Veterans Way. This special event features “Circus in a Box” presented by Jumbo Shrimp Circus; ice cream sundaes; face painting; and balloons.
SummerREAD is sponsored by the Friends of the Mission Viejo Library; Legoland; Ruby’s Diner at the Shops at Mission Viejo; Claim Jumper; Cal Elite Kids; Dr. S. Veshkini, DDS; and Jersey Mike’s Subs.
For more information on how to register for SummerREAD, visit the library’s Web site at www.cmvl.org.
