The public is invited to take part in Mission Viejo’s second annual National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 3. along the Village Green at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way.
Mission Viejo Police Services, in partnership with Target Stores and Home Depot, is gearing up for National Night Out – a national crime prevention celebration of neighborhood camaraderie. The event is designed to increase crime and drug prevention while strengthening neighborhood spirit and rapport among law enforcement and the community as a whole.
The event, which takes place from 4 to 8 p.m., will include community and safety information for all ages – from Child Safe ID cards to the UC Irvine Center of Excellence on Elder Abuse and Neglect. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s canine unit and Forensic Services will be on hand. Web Wise Kids, a leader in Internet safety education, will host an informational booth and folks will learn computer safety tips from the City’s Information Technology Department. Russell Williams, founder and president of Passkeys Foundation will be the keynote speaker. Passkeys has developed a variety of innovative values and character education programs for children, youth, parents and the business and professional community.
Local businesses and other organizations are expected to take part in the event that will also raise awareness of the Samantha’s Pride Neighborhood Child Protection Program, the City launched last year.
Along with the invaluable safety information, National Night Out will highlight the “Dinner Makes A Difference” campaign with food, fun and an outdoor screening of “Ratatouille” at dusk. A host of local eateries including Paradise Bakery & Cafe cookies, Hot Dog on A Stick lemonade, Baja Fresh, Jersey Mike’s and AJS Catering will offer food for purchase at hometown prices.
