More than 25 people from Mexico, El Salvador, Brazil and across the world took part in the City’s 4th annual USTA/ITF Cruyff Foundation Junior Wheelchair Camp Americas July 12-16 at the Felipe Tennis Center. The camp is the only one of its kind in the nation.
The junior wheelchair tennis camp, which is put on by the United States Tennis Association and the International Tennis Federation, is designed to teach and train advanced to beginner wheelchair-bound juniors on the sport of tennis. Since it began in Mission Viejo four years ago, it has doubled in size and has helped to put Mission Viejo on the international map.
Current and former world-ranked wheelchair professionals, Paralympics coaches/athletes and coaches from the United States Tennis Association guided youth ages 10 to 18 in this one-of-a-kind wheelchair camp. The goal was to offer young athletes not only professional sports training but the opportunity to develop friendships with kids both near and far as well as many fantastic memories.
