Connections Chamber Music Concert – Sonic Series Saturday, June 26

Chamber music aficionados are invited to enjoy the final concert of the season presented by musicians with the California Quartet.

Connections Chamber Music is at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Norman P. Murray Community Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

Concert-goers are in for a treat with works by Leos Janacek inspired by “The Kreutzer Sonata” novel. The concert also features “Quartet for the End of Time” by Oliver Messaien and “Dreams of Orpheus” by Matthew Tommasini.

Timeless Melodies Presents Bob Hope: Memories and Laughs Sunday, June 27

Don’t miss a nostalgic musical tribute to Bob Hope, one of America’s greatest comedians, on Sunday, June 27.

The program is at 7 p.m. in the Mission Viejo Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.

From vaudeville dancer to international celebrity, Bob Hope captured hearts around the globe and made people laugh for more than 70 years. Music historian Larry Maurer will celebrate his life and decades of memories and laughs.

South Coast Symphony Presents ‘An Old Fashioned Brass Concert’ Saturday, July 10

Summertime is the right time for brass band music including classic and patriotic favorites from John Sousa.

Members of the South Coast Symphony Brass Section will play an array of tunes that are sure to delight visitors of all ages at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 10. The concert takes place at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

General admission is $20 at the door. Seniors pay $10. Registration is also available online by referencing course #2047 at eConnect.

Lord of the Strings Presents Jack Tempchin Saturday, July 24

The public is invited to attend a special performance July 24 by one of the most successful songwriters in the past three decades.

Lord of the Strings presents Jack Tempchin is at 7 p.m. in the Mission Viejo Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.

Jack’s music includes the Eagles’ “Peaceful Easy Feeling” and “You Belong in the City” among many others. Jack’s entertaining live performance features wit, humor, backstage stories and rhythm. Tickets are $20 at the door. For more information, call 949-842-2227.

Shakespeare in the Garden July 17-18

Enjoy two enchanting evenings under the stars with the Modjeska Playhouse Summer Production of the Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) on Saturday and Sunday, July 17-18.

This free program, sponsored by the City’s Cultural Arts Committee, takes place at 6 p.m. in the Kershaw Garden at the Mission Viejo Civic Center, 200 Civic Center.

Bring picnic baskets, blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy this high-energy performance. For more information, call Chris Sullivan at 949-365-6033.

Target Symphony in the Cities Summer Fun Concert, Saturday, July 31

Save the date for one of the most popular and entertaining events of the summer.

Community members are invited to grab their lawn chairs, blankets, family, friends and neighbors and attend the City’s sixth annual Target Symphony in the Cities concert Saturday, July 31 along the Village Green at Oso Viejo Community Park, 24932 Veterans Way.

Led by Musical Director Carl St. Clair, the Pacific Symphony Orchestra will perform a musical repertoire ranging from patriotic medleys to Broadway show tunes.

This widely popular event kicks off at 4 p.m. with Prelude in the Park activities including art, music and family entertainment booths. The fun-filled “Pacific Symphony Musical Playground” follows at 5:30 p.m., with the Symphony taking center stage at 7 p.m.

Food vendors will be on hand along with a wine and beer garden. Parking and free shuttle service will be available at the Mission Viejo Civic Center as well as Newhart Middle School and the Thomas R. Potocki Conference Center.

Concert-goers are invited to bring a canned or non-perishable food item to support the South County Outreach Food Bank. For more information, call 949-470-8440.
