Book lovers and history buffs alike will enjoy the “Renaissance Books: A Printed Journey from Ancient thru 16th Century Thought” antiquarian book display now featured through July 16 in the Heritage Room at the Mission Viejo Library.
The display is the work of William McPeak, a longtime county resident and collector of unusual books, which are showcase works of art.
McPeak began collecting rare books – 16th and 17th century publications – in the in the 1970s while serving as a meteorologist in the United States Air Force. The books, which feature innovative bindings and covers, contain records of thought specifically dealing with history, philosophy and science.
McPeak, a Renaissance man in his own right, has exhibited his antiquarian books at Occidental and Saddleback College and has authored scholarly articles on military history and technology and early science.
