Council to consider bleacher shade covers at 8 ball fields

The City Council on April 5 will consider installing 16 bleacher shade cover structures to benefit the community at eight fields located in four parks/sports complexes in Mission Viejo.

With more than 2,400 kids in the local Little League program and about 10,000 spectators per month at local games, the structures will provide much-needed shade for folks who faithfully support and watch Mission Viejo youth compete on City baseball fields.

The structures are roughly 18’x 26’ x 13’ high and will be placed over the bleachers of eight fields located at Marty Russo Youth Athletic Park, Curtis Park, Gilleran Park and Beebe park. The City has similar structures in the picnic areas at various City facilities including Gilleran and Marty Russo Youth Athletic Park.

The council will consider awarding the contract to the lowest bidder, Southern Hemisphere Shades, Inc. for $103,808 or about $6,488 per cover.

The City Council meets at 6 p.m. in Council Chamber at City Hall, 200 Civic Center. For more information, visit www.cityofmissionviejo.org.
