Students from three local high schools were recognized by the Kiwanis Club of Mission Viejo this week for their outstanding achievements.

The Kiwanis Club honors high school students each quarter for their scholastic, citizenship and community-service accomplishments and awards $6,000 in scholarships annually.

From Mission Viejo High School, Robyn Cornish, Nettie Wigdor, and Paola Saavedra were honored. Robyn is a senior and an accomplished actress, director and singer who has performed at Disneyland. Paola excels in the visual and graphic arts and is an International Baccalaureate student. Nettie excels in the field of video production and is also an IB student.

Representing Tesoro High School were Brandon Powell, Alicia Zhu, and Kelsey Brongo. Brandon is a senior and the Section Leader for Tesoro High School’s Entertainment Unit’s Marching Band and Drumline. Alicia Zhu is a member of the county’s Mock Trial team, a member of the Model United Nations, and she tutors her peers in chemistry. Kelsey is the President of CSF, a member of the National Honor Society, and a recipient of the Gold Award from the Girl Scouts of America.

Capistrano Valley High School students, Caitlin Bennett, Jacque Selway, and Rachel Budai were also feted. Caitlin is a 4th-year French student an International Baccalaureate scholar. Rachel excels in the arts and has been invited to participate in college art workshops. The Individualized Program Department at CVHS recognized Jacque for her accomplishments as a leader in student spirit and cheerleading. Of special note was the students’ appreciation of their parents support and encouragement.

The club meets at 7:10 a.m. on Tuesdays at Denny’s Restaurant, 24445 Alicia Parkway. For more information, call 770-4343.
