With a total of 14,721 votes cast, the Registrar of Voters reports that the recall of Mayor Lance MacLean from his City Council seat was approved by voters on Tuesday by a total of 19 votes. According to official results released by the Orange County Registrar of Voters at 5:00 this afternoon, 7,370 residents were in favor of recalling MacLean and 7,351 residents were opposed the recall.
The results also show voters approved David “Dave” Leckness to succeed Mayor MacLean. Leckness received 6,396 votes or 54.6% of the votes . Candidate Dale Tyler received 5,311 votes or 45.4%.
The City Council on February 15 will officially certify the results of the special/recall election. At that time, Dave Leckness will be sworn in to serve on the City Council.
The cost of the special election is estimated to cost the City $270,000.
The mayor is recalled and the story, aside from being vague (is Leckness the mayor?) is relegated to last place on the list of recent news. Feeling a bit sheepish?
The new Mayor will be decided on during the February 15, 2010 meeting.
Let Him or Her that is without sin cast the first stone. At least I know now where those who voted for this costly special election celebrated that night. At a pizza parlor called: URL omitted (see blog policy-advertising)
Thank you and turn out the lights to the council chambers.
