Mission Viejo Library patrons opened their hearts and donated 2,463 pounds of food to South County Outreach last year, according to food drive coordinator Marlene M. Ford. The library has been collecting food since last spring to benefit the non-profit organization, which was formed in 1989 to provide emergency assistance to South Orange County residents.
According to South County Outreach, every 40 pounds of food collected feeds a family of four for four days, and, South Orange County children receive 60 percent of the organization’s services. Food donation barrels are located in the library’s lobby at 100 Civic Center.
Residents can also donate food at the City’s Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way. Canned and non-perishable foods such as cereal; rice; beans; tuna; peanut butter and jelly; spaghetti sauce; and pasta are needed most.
