Authorities are investigating an alleged vandalism and burglary that resulted in the suspect being shot when he tried to push his way into a home Monday night.
At around 10:30 p.m., a resident living in the 22000 block of Via Santa Maria was woken up by suspicious loud noises in front of his home. Believing someone was attempting to break into his vehicle, he grabbed a handgun and went to the front door to investigate.
The resident saw a man breaking the windows of a neighbor’s car and yelled at him to stop. The suspect ran at the resident and tried to push his way into the resident’s home, as the resident tried to close the door. The resident grabbed his gun and shot into the door. The bullet went through the door and injured the subject outside who ran to a nearby residence where he was detained and arrested by deputies a short time later. There were no other shots fired and no other injuries.
The man faces burglary and other related charges. Authorities believe he broke the windows of a vehicle parked on the street. The incident continues to be investigated.

We had a suspicious visit tonight 2-24-2010; at around 8:30 pm someone knocked on the door, he identified himself as Preston and was looking for directions to a gas station, we are the second house from an intersection with Trabuco, we did not open the door, but my wife told him to go to Trabuco and which way to turn, he asked for repetition of the direction twice and then left.
Our house from the outside looks totally dark unless we have the bedroom lights on, at night we usually are in the living room and kitchen and those are the only lights that are on, so from the street it looks like there may be no one home, unless you look down the alley on the side of the house from where you would notice the light from the kitchen shinning through the window. Our two cars were in the driveway.
I have a feeling this guy was looking to see if the house was empty, otherwise if he was legit why knock on a totally dark house instead of one of the other houses that are pretty light up. He also did not use the bell, he knocked as if not to leave a fingerprint on the doorbell (I know, I have been watching too much CSI!)
Needless to say we are going to get active lighting up the house and possibly getting involved in setting up a neighborhood watch.
Has anyone else experience any similar suspicious incident lately?
Mike.
