Work nearly complete on project designed to ease traffic

Construction is nearing completion on a project to widen Avery Parkway under Interstate 5 to ease traffic congestion in the area.

The project includes a new freeway access lane eastbound between Camino Capistrano and the I-5 northbound on-ramp; and a new lane westbound between Marguerite and the I-5 southbound on-ramp.

During construction, the southbound freeway off-ramp was reduced to a single left-turn lane, causing congestion. The new lanes are now in place and all existing lanes have been restored. Minor construction will continue next month, but it is not expected to cause any major traffic delays.

The project is a cooperative effort between the cities of Mission Viejo and Laguna Niguel and Caltrans.
