The Community Development Department is seeking resident input regarding access to fair housing within Mission Viejo.
Residents are asked to complete a short survey, available by clicking here, to share their experiences.
Obtaining resident input is an important part of the City’s compliance with the requirements of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). CDBG, one of the longest-running programs of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, funds local community development activities such as fair housing, anti-poverty programs and infrastructure development.
To qualify for the annual grant, Mission Viejo is required to develop a five-year plan that demonstrates how it will spend the funds to improve the community. Between 2005 and 2009, the City received more than $2 million in grants, which have funded a variety of activities. These have included housing rehabilitation loans for lower- income homeowners, handicap access improvements at City facilities, and public services activities benefitting a broad range of need groups.
The survey is available online or by contacting Christian Murdock at 949-470-3074 or cmurdock@cityofmissionviejo.org. Instructions for returning the survey are available at the end of the survey. Among the locations accepting surveys are the several fair housing workshops that will take place in December (more information here).
Results will be included in the City’s next five-year “Consolidated Plan,” which is expected to be finished in mid-2010. Responses will be accepted through Tuesday, Dec. 15.
