Resident Robert Gagne, 11, won $1,000 in a football throw contest hosted by author Mike Lupica at City Hall on Wednesday.
Lupica visited Mission Viejo to promote his latest book, “Million Dollar Throw.” More than 100 children ages 8 to 15 competed in the national football throw contest. Gagne was one of 13 finalists who vied for the prize.
Mission Viejo youth scored the highest number of target hits of any of the five other cities on Lupica’s tour.
Lupica, an ESPN sportscaster, also delighted more than 200 fans with tales of his books.
