The City will pay homage to local veterans in a poignant ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
The annual Veterans Day Observance is at 2 p.m. at the Mission Viejo Veterans Memorial near the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way.
The ceremony begins with an invocation by Reverend Tom Tyree, American Legion Post 862, followed by a Marine Color Guard and the singing of the “Star Spangled Banner” by the Northstar Carolers.
Congressman Gary Miller will give the opening remarks before U.S. Marine Corps Colonel Michael S. Groen speaks. Groen is the Commander of Mission Viejo’s adopted Headquarters Battalion First Marine Division.
Members of Veterans of Foreign War Post 6024 will provide the rifle salute following the veterans’ recognition.
American Heroes Tribute banners honoring Mission Viejo residents who died while serving their country will be on display.
The Marine Adoption Committee will accept donations for the purchase of T-shirts and hats before and after the ceremony.
Refreshments will be served in the Sycamore Room of the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center immediately following the ceremony.
