City officials are hoping the Orange County Transportation Authority Board of Directors will not eliminate bus routes in town when it addresses the issue on Nov. 23.
At its Monday meeting, OCTA board members acknowledged the City’s letter outlining the importance of bus routes in Mission Viejo. Several concerned residents and City staff attended the meeting, and Council Member Trish Kelley urged the board to reduce trips rather than eliminate bus routes, given that some form of service reduction is necessary.
On Monday, board members also approved the City’s application for the Project V Program, which will provide service planning for local circulator transit routes. The City is already participating in OCTA’s Measure M-funded Go Local Program, which is providing service planning for local transit links to the Metrolink stations.
Contrary to OCTA’s current plans to reduce bus service due to budget shortfalls, the Go Local and Project V programs propose to use Measure M funds to ultimately expand service.
