The number of signatures on the petition seeking to recall Mayor Pro Tem Lance MacLean have been established as sufficient by the County Registrar of Voters, which invoiced the City $43,268.40 to verify the signatures.

The City Council on Oct. 5 will certify the results and then, at the Oct. 19 City Council Meeting, the Council will set the date for an election which, by law, has to take place between mid January and mid February 2010.

There were 12,871 signatures verified of which 9,538 signatures were valid and 3,333 were deemed invalid, according to the County Registrar of Voters.

On Oct. 5, City staff will ask the City Council to discuss how they wish to pay for the verification process.  The cost of the actual election has previously been estimated at $227,000.  This additional cost will be discussed at a future meeting once a final estimate is received from the County Registrar of Voters.
