The Orange County Sheriff’s Department and City of Mission Viejo teamed up to host the first drive-thru document shredding as a service to the community to promote awareness about the serious issue of identity theft.
More than 16,440 pounds of shred and 420 pounds of cardboard was processed for recycling during the Sept. 19 Shred Day, which was held as an effort to prevent identity theft in the community.
Residents and business owners had the convenience of remaining in their cars while Mission Viejo’s adopted Marines unloaded their boxes of documents that were shredded on the spot by Orange County Shredding.
The event, which was held at the Mission Viejo Freeway Center, was a “win-win” for the community and environment.
The City is grateful to Mission Viejo’s Senior Community Activity Team and Sheriff’s Explorer Post 449 for assisting with set-up, traffic control and clean-up.
