The City Council on Monday will consider renewing the City’s street-sweeping contract – one of the lowest rates in South Orange County.
The proposed $748,782 two-year contract renewal will allow the City to receive the street-sweeping services at the same rate since 2007.
Mission Viejo has been a leader in requiring the use of Compressed Natural Gas Fueled street sweepers since the early ‘90s. The energy efficient method has played a key role in the City’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions for City services.
The City contracts with Sunset Property Services to provide the service due to the company’s willingness to use the natural gas vehicles and has worked to inform the public about street-sweeping schedules and parking on sweep days.
The City’s “Operation Clean Street” can provide residents with a map and street-sweeping schedule. The schedules have helped to get cars off the streets and improve the overall quality of the City’s street-sweeping efforts. The schedules are available by calling 949-470-3095.
The City Council meets at 6 p.m. Monday, July 20 in Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.
