Every child who registers for the Mission Viejo Library’s SummerREAD program will receive a free ice cream cone, compliments of Skimmer’s Panini Café on Marguerite Parkway.
Owners Scott and Mary Kim have joined forces with several other local businesses to support the library’s annual reading fest by donating prizes to reward youngsters for taking part in the program that is designed to encourage reading and trips to the library.
Last year, roughly 3,000 youngsters took part in the free program that takes place from June 22 through Aug. 3. This year, participation is expected to increase even more – meaning Skimmers could be scooping thousands of free ice cream cones for local youth.
The business owners said they are only too happy to oblige.
“Scott said Mission Viejo is his family’s neighborhood and they are here to support our City,” said Valerie Maginnis, Director of Library Services. “Scott and Mary are happy to have the opportunity to work with the City of Mission Viejo and build their business on their customers’ loyalty.”
Other businesses including Claim Jumper; McDonald’s; Oggi’s Pizza & Brewing Co.; Saddleback Lanes; Target; Wal-Mart; Outback Steakhouse; Dr. Sam Veshkini, Orthodontist; Ashley Force; Anaheim Ducks; Wienerschnitzel; Carl’s Jr.; HomeTown Buffet; and Legoland/Sea Life Aquarium will also provide incentives and prizes to youngsters taking part in Mission Viejo’s annual SummerREAD.
