More than 240 people on Wednesday celebrated the 20th anniversary of the City’s Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center with poignant tales, reminiscing and a delectable lunch.
Louise Kripilani, the center’s first senior program director, along with several individuals who established the senior programs were on hand during the June 3 event that felt like a large family reunion. Attendees enjoyed an historical look back at the center’s evolution along with a Cordon Bleu lunch – complete with wild rice, creamed spinach, salad and chocolate éclair.
In the past two decades since its grand opening on June 3, 1989, the facility’s programs and amenities have expanded to benefit the public.
The Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center 13,500-square-foot expansion project, which was completed March 29, 2008, included refurbishing the existing building, updating the center with the latest audio and video equipment and other significant site improvements. The Oso Viejo Park received an impressive makeover with two new soccer fields; outdoor seating areas and scenic walkways;
a Veterans Memorial Wall; new children’s playground; and an expanded parking lot. Several environmentally friendly and innovative features were incorporated into the project.
Visitors to the celebration enjoyed entertainment and learning about the center’s many programs and events and those who’ve contributed to its success.
