The Kiwanis Club of Mission Viejo this week awarded six $500 scholarships to Mission Viejo high school students, as part if its annual Dwight and Carol Williamson Memorial Scholarships.
Scholarships were awarded to Courtney Corkill from Silverado High School; Ann Marie Kawai of Tesoro High School; Sonam Dattani, a student in the Regional Occupational Program at Mission Viejo High School; Rachel Ferris, a student in the Regional Occupational Program at Tesoro High School; Lauren Putnam from Mission Viejo High School; and Lauren Schafer from Capistrano Valley High School.
For the past two decades, the Kiwanis Club of Mission Viejo has been awarding the Dwight and Carol Williamson Memorial Scholarships to graduating seniors from Mission Viejo high schools. The scholarships are based on scholastic, advanced education plans, educational improvement, financial need, citizenship and community volunteering achievements. Dwight Williamson was a club member for 16 years.
As a service club, the Kiwanis Club of Mission Viejo is committed to improving the lives of children in the community. Club members participate in volunteer activities such as food drives; yard clean-ups; and student recognitions. The club meets at 7 a.m. Tuesdays at Denny’s on Alicia Parkway near the I-5.

Their are single mom scholarships which are offered by Dennys restaurant which can be applied to if you are Hispanic. Single moms are classified as “non traditional students” and many colleges have very good financial support for these types of female students. When looking for scholarships for moms you must also look for women scholarships too because some of them favor women who are mothers. My daughter found one this way.
