More than 500 third-grade students from area schools attended the City’s Environmental Fair on Friday.
Mission Viejo took the lead in promoting the importance of caring for the environment by enlisting several organizations and groups to participate. The fair featured an array of exhibitors including the City’s Public Services Department; OC Stormwater Program; Waste Management; MWDOC; Moulton Niguel Water District; Santa Margarita Water District; Ocean Institute; O.C. Used Oil Program; UCCE Master Gardeners; and the Mission Viejo Animal Shelter that took part in an effort to educate youngsters about ways to preserve and improve the environment.
The students from Bathgate, Cordillera, Del Lago, De Portola, O’Neill and Viejo elementary schools enjoyed a Discovery Science Center presentation dubbed “Get Your Mind into the Gutter” and watched “The Magic of Recycling” show at City Hall.
The students enjoyed visiting several booths hosted by government agencies and non-profit organizations that were lined up between the Library and City Hall. Youngsters learned from hands-on displays, environmental games and more before enjoying lunch in the Kershaw Garden.
