In an effort to help low-income residents, the City offers a monthly food distribution program at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center to those most in need.
The Emergency Commodity Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) is a federal program that provides free emergency food and nutrition assistance to help supplement the diets of people with low incomes. The next distribution program takes place at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 16.
TEFAP, which is part of the senior meals program provided by South County Senior Services, has been offered to the community since the center opened in 1989. Roughly 120 people use the service each month.
To qualify, individuals must make $1,300 a month or less and couples’ monthly incomes must be $1,700 or less.
Distribution normally takes place at 10 a.m. on the Thursday after the third Wednesday of the month at the center located at 24932 Veterans Way.
