Relay Life of Mission Viejo is gaining momentum with 72 teams signed up to participate in the June 6-7 fundraising event at Saddleback College.
Officials say the interest and early participation in the 15th annual Mission Viejo-based Relay For Life is “unprecedented” and inspiring. Officials are seeking even more groups, organizations and individuals to participate in the worthwhile event. The public can learn more about Relay For Life by attending Thursday’s committee meeting, which starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way.
Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs. During the event, teams participate by taking turns walking or running laps around the track. At nightfall, participants light hundreds of luminarias in a moving ceremony to honor cancer survivors and remember those who lost their battle to the disease. Relay For Life offers something for everyone – from the newly diagnosed and caregivers to friends and long-term cancer survivors.
Volunteers are still sought to serve on the planning team and others are needed to recruit groups, families, friends, neighbors or co-workers to raise money and attend the 24-hour event. Cancer survivors are sought to participate in the “Survivor’s Lap.” All cancer survivors will be honored with a special T-shirt, medal and recognition.
