The Planning and Transportation Commission on Monday cleared the way for a new 1,250-square-foot Greek family restaurant to serve beer and wine at Gateway Center off Alicia Parkway.
Athena Gyro Greek Food & Grill, which opened Jan. 5 at 24000 Alicia Parkway, is a full-service family oriented restaurant specializing in the authentic Greek fare. The Mission Viejo eatery is the first in Orange County, joining sister stores Athens Gyros Restaurant in San Mateo and Foster City, California.
The restaurant is known for its delectable gyros and falafel and a menu that includes authentic Greek fare such as lamb shanks, chicken, meat and fish kabobs along with homemade Mediterranean-style ravioli, rich vegetarian dishes and sinful pastry products.
The new restaurant, which holds seating for 22, operates seven days a week and will serve imported Greek wine and beer during lunch and dinner. The eatery boasts images, history and culture from the country in southeastern Europe, and patrons will also enjoy planned outdoor seating and landscaping that is subject to City staff’s approval.
