Remember to go ‘green’ this holiday season by recycling your Christmas trees

Residents with curbside trash and recycling service can give a gift to the environment this holiday season by recycling their trees. Christmas tree recycling collection begins Dec. 26 and continues until Jan. 16.

Waste Management, the City’s waste hauler, will collect trees curbside on regularly scheduled pickup days and deliver them to a green-waste facility for recycling. Trees should be stripped of stands and all decorations including tinsel, lights and ornaments. Trees larger than six feet should be cut in half. Residents can place smaller trees inside their green waste cart as an alternative. Flocked trees will be collected but cannot be recycled.

Residents who live in multi-family complexes can recycle their trees by delivering them to one of the following locations:

Mission Viejo Animal Shelter
28095 Hillcrest

Youth Athletic Park
22056 Olympiad Road

Gilleran Park
24960 Felipe Road

Trash and recycling collection services will be suspended on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 and will be delayed by one day during the holiday weeks.
