Avoid late fees at Mission Viejo Library

In an effort to save the public time and money, the Mission Viejo Library has designed a convenient, easy way to keep late fees at bay.

Patrons can avoid paying late fees, which range from 25 cents per day for books to $2 a day for entertainment DVDs, charged on materials returned past their due date by renewing materials before they’re due.

Library patrons can easily renew materials on the library’s Web site at www.cmvl.org or by calling 949-855-8086. The public can also call the library’s Check-Out Desk directly at 949-830-7100, extension 5101.

“By remembering to renew their library materials, patrons will never pay another late fee,” said Valerie Maginnis, director of library services.

Free reading-friendly event

Parents who struggle with selecting the right book from their child’s classroom-assigned reading list are in luck. On Dec. 2, the Mission Viejo Library will host a free seminar at 6 p.m. in the Friends Community Room designed to make it easier for selecting appropriate books.

Educators from “Teaching with E’s,” an educational resource center for parents, will provide useful information on how to substitute titles, identify books with similar lexile numbers and how to create a “reading-friendly” environment at home.

For more information, call 949-305-0404. The Mission Viejo Library is at 100 Civic Center.

Creative cookies make great holiday gifts

The best gifts come from the heart – and are homemade. On Dec. 6, teens have the opportunity to whip up some sweet, chewy treats during the free holiday “Cookie Decorating Workshop” in the Mission Viejo Library Friends Community Room.

The mixing, stirring and baking begin at 3:30 p.m. All cookie-decorating supplies and cookies will be provided. Teens are encouraged to unleash their culinary skills and turn their cookie creations into holiday gifts.

To register and for more information, call 949-830-7100, extension 5138.

Have a Celtic Christmas

Children 4 years of age and older are invited to experience a “Celtic Christmas” on Saturday, Dec. 13 – in an event that will feature holiday merriment, music and more.

The program, which takes place at 11 a.m., in the City Hall Saddleback Room, features performers from “Rags to Reels” who will entertain in the holiday tradition with music, dance and storytelling.

Children will also have an opportunity to make a special Celtic holiday ornament.
The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Mission Viejo Library.

For more information, call the Mission Viejo Library Youth Services Desk at 949-830-7100, extension 5107.
