The idea that the Mission Viejo Activities Committee is changing tradition by moving Santa’s workshop gives an unfair presentation of the purpose of the relocation.
The tradition should focus on the elements of the event, and not the location of the event. Santa will still arrive in Mission Viejo as always on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Children can still visit Santa’s workshop and sit on his lap for photos. We will still serve hot cocoa to the folks waiting in line. Santa will still answer all the letters to the children. All of this is still free for the community. And all of this can take place in the safety of the area between city hall and the library.
The Community Tree at the corners will still be decorated. The sleigh and reindeer on the corner where the workshop was located will provide a very festive display surrounded by lighted Christmas trees. The “Four Corners” and the lights on La Paz will provide beautiful entrance to our city.
Here are the items of the tradition that are changing.
1. The arrival celebration will start at 3 P.M. and be expanded to include morethan 30 booths of entertaining activities for the kids.
2. The children’s tree trimming with ornaments they can decorate will be a part ofthe celebration.
3. For a very nominal fee, the children can take a train ride through the area.
4. There will be photo opportunities for children and parents.
5. Hot chili, coffee and hot chocolate will be available for purchase during the celebration.
As you look at what this small group of volunteers (MVAC) is doing, please look at all the aspects of the event and take the time to reflect on the positive aspects and above all, keep the children in your hearts and thoughts. They are the focus and that’s what we are trying to do. The primary concern of the dedicated people who organize, set up, and volunteer to make this event happen is the safety and welfare of the children who come to visit Santa.
Thank you,
