Cultural arts programs thrive in November

Timeless Melodies presents “Songs That Inspired a Nation,” a Veterans Day Tribute
In honor of Veterans Day, Larry Maurer, executive director of Timeless Melodies will pay homage to American soldiers leading patrons in a tribute celebrating the songs that built the nation.

The program kicks off at 4 p.m. on Nov. 11 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center located at 24932 Veterans Way.

Tickets are $5 (free for veterans) and are available online at http://econnect.cityofmissionviejo.org and reference course # 1492. Tickets are also available at the door.

Java and Music with Gail Jacobson
Keeping with the patriotic theme, on Nov. 16, jazz singer Gail Jacobson will sing beloved songs from “The Great American Songbook,” in a free program that will also feature entertainers Gerard Hager and Richard Simon.

The program starts at 4 p.m. at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

Lord of the Strings presents Doyle Dykes
The City on Nov. 22 will feature Doyle Dykes – one of the most convincing cross-genre fingerstylists today. Dykes effectively metes out Jazz, Latin, Gospel, Hawaiian and Country arrangements from his nylon and steel-string guitars.

The program is at 7 p.m. at the City’s Civic Center, 200 Civic Center.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at http://econnect.cityofmissionviejo.org and reference course number 1494. Tickets are also available at the door.

Vocational Visions Art Exhibit comes to Mission Viejo Nov. 18-Dec. 10
Artworks created by members of the Vocational Visions program will be displayed at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center from Nov. 18 through Dec.10.

Vocational Visions is a Mission Viejo-based non-profit agency, which provides vocational life skills training and support services to adults with developmental disabilities. Vocational Visions has been in partnership with the Saddleback Valley Unified School District since 1974 when the program began with 30 clients and five staff members. Today, Vocational Visions has more than 415 clients and a staff of 100, comprised of teachers, instructional aides and corporate employees.

The gallery hours coincide with the Norman P. Murray hours of operation. For hours and more information, call 470-3062.

Arts Orange County
The City is a member of Arts OC, which serves as a resource and advocate for the arts community, as a catalyst for leadership on arts issues, and as a sponsor of programs and services that enhance public awareness of arts activities and promote the development of the arts and arts education throughout Orange County.
