The Friends of the Mission Viejo Library is selling used books on Amazon.com – part of an additional effort to support the library’s programs and services to the public.
Selling used books on Amazon.com complements the used-book sales in the Friends’ “bricks and mortar” bookstore in the Mission Viejo Library at 100 Civic Center.
“Thanks to a well-trained cadre of volunteers who diligently evaluate, price, sell and package books for shipping, the Friends have raised more than $7,000 selling on Amazon.com since July 2007,” said Director of Library Services Valerie Maginnis. “The Friends take pride in maintaining their “5-star” sellers rating by ensuring that all seller e-mail correspondence is answered promptly and that all books are mailed within the specified Amazon.com timeframe.”
The Friends have established specific criteria for selling used books on Amazon.com and list books that sell for more than $8. Since first editions and author-signed copies of books are not added to the library’s collection, they are ideal for selling on Amazon.com, American e-commerce company based in Seattle, Washington.
The most expensive book sold online (so far) is a 1976 book on poker which went for $450,” Maginnis said. “Mission Viejo Library volunteers enjoy the thrill of locating a seemingly ordinary book which could potentially sell on Amazon.com for hundreds of dollars.
Proceeds from the Amazon.com sales are used by the Friends of the Mission Viejo Library to support programs and services – such as the new LiveScan Fingerprinting service – and purchase new materials.
