Roughly $20,000 has been raised to support the City’s adopted Marines & Sailors of the Headquarters Battalion of the First Marine Division.
The monies, which were raised this summer and fall through four car-wash events and the sales of T-shirts, hats and military coins at community events, will offset the cost of entry-level Marines & Sailors to attend their annual formal ball in November.
The annual ball is a celebration of the Marine Corps’ birthday, with this year marking the Marine Corps’ 233rd birthday. The event is an opportunity for the military personnel to celebrate their service and commitment to the country just before the holiday season.
Since the City adopted its Marines & Sailors in March 2006, the community has embraced the battalion by going out its way to provide assistance and help boost the morale of the Marines/Sailors and their families.
The City and its Marines/Sailors Adoption Committee are truly grateful to the community for its heartfelt support and efforts.
