Several exciting cultural arts programs on tap in Mission Viejo

Master Sculptor to present free slide lecture for public Friday
The public on Friday is invited to attend a free presentation by a master sculptor known for his impressive body of work.

Raymond Persinger, one of the most skilled sculptors living today, will present a slide lecture at 6 p.m. Sept. 12 in Council Chambers at City Hall, 200 Civic Center.

Persinger is responsible for several public art sculptures around the world and has an excellent understanding of the human form.

Violin technique, scale classes begin Friday
Individuals interested in taking advantage of instrumental lessons focusing on rapid technical development and proficiency skills can do so by signing up for classes that begin Sept. 12.

Mischa Lakirovich will host “Violin Technique and Scale Classes” through Oct. 17 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

The classes, which begin at 3:30 p.m., are semi-private and students will learn how to listen to themselves and others and play in an informal setting. Participants will also learn how to perform on stage.

Lord of the Strings presents Acoustic Eidolon
Duo Joe Scott and Hanna Alkire are Acoustic Eidolon. Influenced by Celtic, Bluegrass and Latin music, they mix Classical with Folk music on their unusual instrumentation. This program is at 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at the City of Mission Viejo Civic Center, 200 Civic Center (corner of Marguerite and La Paz). Timeless Melodies presents “The Roaring 20’s – Aint We Got Fun”
Timeless Melodies with Larry Maurer presents a musical tour through the era of the flappers, the Charleston and Florenz Ziegfeld. The program is at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at http://econnect.cityofmissionviejo.org and reference course # 1409. Watercolor Fix-It Clinic with Marlene Gerloff
Bring four paintings that need work (finished or not) and watercolor supplies to learn constructive self evaluation, effective correction methods and creative ideas to change your work dramatically. This one-day workshop is from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way (off La Paz). Create Santa Claus Heirlooms with Anne Chase Sanregret
Sculpt, design and paint your own heirloom Santa Claus with Better Homes and Garden’s Artist, Anne Sanregret. Anne teaches students across the country. She has been featured in numerous newspapers and a 12-page pictorial in Better Homes and Gardens as one of the country’s top five Master Santa artists. Anne will be leading a two-day workshop in the art of sculpting on Oct. 4 and Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Class fees are $275 and students can register online at http://econnect.cityofmissionviejo.org and reference course number 1502 (a $65 materials fee is payable to instructor).
