Roughly 500 people attended the 2nd annual Sierra family barbecue Saturday – capping off the City’s Recreation, Fitness and Tennis Centers most successful summer to date. The 3-hour event, which included live music, pool games, food and more, was a way to thank the community for its support and commemorate the end of summer.

The Aug. 23 barbecue celebrates the most successful summer of recreation in Mission Viejo. In fact, July was a record-setting month for recreation, as the Montanoso and Sierra Recreation & Fitness Centers attracted 28,836 visitors – marking the highest attendance on record for any month.

Roughly 18,622 people last month visited Montanoso at 25800 Montanoso Drive, while Sierra attracted 10,214 visitors to the center located at 26887 Recodo Lane. The recreation centers have roughly 8,000 members.

Officials believe the high attendance at the centers throughout the summer and at the August barbecue is a testament to the importance of recreation and fitness in Mission Viejo. The City works to provide an array of programs and more for the community to encourage healthy lifestyles and fun for folks of all ages.

For more information about the Montanoso and Sierra Recreation Centers, call 949-470-3061 or visit the City’s Web site at www.cityofmissionviejo.org. Information is also available by e-mailing recreation@CityOfMissionViejo.org.
