Patron use at the Mission Viejo Library increased by 11 percent during Fiscal Year 2007/08, and roughly 73 percent of all Mission Viejo residents now have library cards – beating out the national average of 57 percent.
The library’s annual circulation climbed to 833,488 items, compared to 738,456 the previous fiscal year. At the end of June, the library tallied 144,492 registered borrows, with more than 72,000 living in Mission Viejo.
The number of people who visited the library in person or online increased by 141,299 over last year, and program attendance at all library events was up by nearly 1,000. Volunteers also contributed greatly last fiscal year by donating 20,490 hours of service.
The library’s expenditures per capita are still less than the national average of $34.13. Last year’s expenditures were $27.65, compared to $23.97 in Fiscal Year 2006/07.
